A Stronger Washington Starts with Us

Tonya Stadlman — for State Representative, 44th LD, Position 2

I'm a community leader, housing professional, and proud Washingtonian with over 30 years of experience working alongside families, seniors, and local communities. I've watched Olympia spend more every year while public safety, affordability, and our basic systems have gotten worse. I'm running because the families of the 44th deserve a representative who pairs lived experience with practical reform, and who isn't afraid to demand accountability for the money we're already paying.

Accountability First. Recovery Focused.

Public safety isn't a partisan issue. It's a parent's issue. A grandparent's issue. A small-business owner's issue.

Washington has ranked last in the nation in police officers per capita for 15 straight years. That's not bad luck. That's policy. Our murder rate is up 42% since 2019 while the national rate has fallen. Our vehicle thefts are up nearly 35% since 2019, while the national rate barely moved.

And in our own backyard, Snohomish County has lost 975 people to drug and alcohol deaths since January 2023, about six lives every week. Olympia counts beds. They don't count caskets.

I'm running to restore safer streets, fund our officers, and treat addiction with the urgency it deserves. Real compassion has consequences. Anything less is just paperwork.

Washington families are being priced out of Washington.

The 2025 legislative session passed the largest tax increase in state history, over $12 billion in new taxes and fees. Gas taxes went up. Sales tax expanded to dozens of new services. Meanwhile only 25% of Washington families can afford the median-priced home in our state.

People should not have to leave the state they love just to afford to live in it.

I'm running to lower the cost of living by lowering the cost of government. Stop the tax hikes. Make Washington a place where working families can build a life, not just survive one.

Accountable Government

Before Olympia takes another dollar, they need to account for the dollars they're already taking.

Before Olympia takes another dollar, they need to account for the dollars they're already taking.

When Washingtonians showed up in record numbers to oppose a state income tax, the most opposition any bill has received in state history, lawmakers passed it anyway. When the state spent over $2.4 billion on homelessness last biennium and committed another $1.8 billion this one, the count kept going up. When the largest tax hike in state history passed, voters were never asked.

That's not government. That's contempt.

My doctrine is simple: Audit before ask. We freeze new taxes. We audit the books. We find the waste and the fraud. We fund what works and stop funding what doesn't. Then, and only then, do we talk about whether anyone needs to pay more.

That's how every Washington family runs their household. It's time Olympia learned to do the same.
